Here is Italian Football Daily’s Serie A Team of the Week for Round 24...

Goalkeeper

Łukasz Skorupski (Empoli)

Empoli’s Polish goalkeeper Łukasz Skorupski, on loan from Roma, has been impressive this season and continued that form with a resilient performance away at Atalanta. On the few occasions that Atalanta got in behind the Empoli defence, the goalkeeper did enough to thwart their efforts.

Defenders

Nikola Maksimović (Torino)

Despite losing to Chievo, Maksimović was a bright spark in Torino’s performance. He was bringing the ball out from the back and attempting to create moves, and was dominant when it came to making tackles.

Molla Wagué (Udinese)

Milan appeared unable to finish off chances once they got to the final third on Sunday afternoon, and a large part of that was due to the excellent game Molla Wagué had in defence. Any chances that emerged were quashed or diverted, with Wagué often the one leading the charge.

Wesley Hoedt (Lazio)

As Lazio got a draw at Genoa, Hoedt was in incredible form as he made six tackles and won two aerial duals. The centre-back position has been a contentious issue at Lazio this season, but Hoedt has shown in recent weeks that he can alleviate some of the overreliance on Stefan de Vrij.

Midfielders

Juan Cuadrado (Juventus)

Juan Cuadrado had an excellent game at Frosinone as Juventus broke their own record by winning for the 14th consecutive game in Serie A. The Colombian even opened the scoring for La Vecchia Signora with just over 15 minutes to go, calmly stroking the ball into the corner of the net from Alex Sandro’s pass.

Franco Vázquez (Palermo)

In an underwhelming season for Palermo, Vázquez has continued to be a reason for positivity around the club. The talented Argentine-born Italian playmaker was a constant thorn in Sassuolo’s defence, and was fouled 11 times in the game; a joint league-high for this season.

Godfred Donsah (Bologna)

Donsah provided Bologna with a lot of energy in midfield against Fiorentina and provided the assist for his side’s equaliser. After receiving the ball in the box, Donsah turned back on himself, coolly passed to Giaccherini and he found the back of the net.

Luca Marrone (Hellas Verona)

Just days after Verona’s first win of the season, they picked up a draw against Inter as their unbeaten run stretches to five games. Luca Marrone was vital in midfield and picked up three assists, all from dead ball situations; and he is the first player to do that in past 10 Serie A seasons.

Ivan Perišić (Internazionale)

Despite starting the game on the bench, Ivan Perišić helped theNerazzurri claim a point at the StadioMarc’Antonio Bentegodi by providing an assist and scoring a goal.

Strikers

Diego Perotti (Roma)

Playing in the ‘false nine’ role made famous by Francesco Totti, Perotti has begun his Roma career in excellent fashion. The Argentine played well at Sassuolo during the week, and was drifting in and out of pockets against Sampdoria this weekend. He even capped off his performance by getting Roma’s second, a well-hit volley into the bottom corner.

Gonzalo Higuaín (Napoli)

Another matchday, another Higuaín goal. 24 goals in 24 games now.
