Luciano Spalletti has lauded the decision to bring back the iconic Lupetto wolf badge for the new Roma away kit, declaring that it is a shirt that his players must wear with pride.
“The Lupetto conjures up memories of gladiators like Sebastiano Nela, Ago Di Bartolomei and Bruno Conti,” Spalletti said. “Those players bore the responsibility that comes with wearing this shirt and they did so with pride – that’s vital."
He added: “Roma kits are never boring. They’re always beautiful. Looking at this one in particular, the colour and pattern make you think of travertine, one of the materials that best represents the eternal city.
"This shirt will remind our warriors to channel the strength of this material when we do battle. It must be honoured.”
Spalletti was speaking at an event in Via del Corso, with Radja Nainggolan, Francesco Totti, Kevin Strootman and Juan Jesus also in attendance.
The Roma boss admitted he is delighted that the Giallorossi players involved in international action this summer will be back with the group on Saturday.
“I welcome them back with open arms," he said. "Most of them were starters last season and they helped us achieve the fantastic results we got at the back end of the campaign. That’s where we need to pick up from this time around, striving to get better and better.
"It won’t be easy but we’ll be trying to do even better than last season.”
