While Spalletti acknowledged that the defeat in Turin - a narrow 1-0 loss courtesy of Gonzalo Higuain's early strike - had been tough to take, the boss believes his players have handled the disappointment well and are now focused on bouncing back.
“The group has reacted very well," Spalletti said, when asked about the mood at the club this week. "These defeats hurt, but you have to be able to analyse them objectively.
“Usually you talk in the dressing room after matches and there were some good things said, with people showing understanding of the current situation. We can’t throw everything away in five minutes because we’ve lost a match.
"Obviously, the defeat hurts and leaves us three points further behind Juventus, but you have to look at other things and they’re all in the players’ favour."
Tuesday's training session was notable as players decided to continue beyond the end of the scheduled finish in order to find a winner in their practice match, something the boss took as a positive sign.
“They need to maintain their belief and their confidence in what they’ve done and what they can still achieve needs to remain intact," he added. "That’s the right way to move forward and the lads are training well.
"Watching training yesterday, it was clear that they are absolutely determined to turn the disappointment of the defeat into a win against Chievo.”
