The following season saw Roma meet Monaco in the quarter-finals of the Cup Winners’ Cup. The first leg finished 0-0 at the Olimpico, with the Giallorossi slipping to a 1-0 defeat in France courtesy of a Rui Barros goal.
Roma’s next match-up against a French team arrived in 2005-06, as the Giallorossi drew 1-1 with Strasbourg in the group stages of the UEFA Cup.
