3x3: Roma five-a-side, Andrea Pirlo and the Nations League

Roma fans Enzo Giordani, Samson Delgado and Michael Kantaris from Italian Football TV are put on the spot with three topical football questions…

The Roma Question: Which one Roma player would be your first pick for your five-a-side team?

Enzo / @EnzoGiordani: “Daniele De Rossi – firstly so I could say that I’ve played with him and secondly because he would get up the noses of the opposition. Especially here in New Zealand, where he’s disliked for his role in denying the national team a win against Italy in the 2010 World Cup.”

Samson / @SamDelASR87: “Diego Perotti! No question! In a five-a-side game, I believe that dribbling skills are key. A player that can get past his marker with ease is vital since there are fewer passing options.”

Michael / @GrkMikey: “Radja Nainggolan without a doubt, he is one of my favourite football players ever! He is the perfect example of always giving 110% in everything that you do. He knows how to defend, score, pressure and never stop running and on top of that is loyal. Can't get much better than that nowadays.”

The Serie A Question: Where does Pirlo rank in terms of Italy’s greatest ever players?

@EnzoGiordani: “I don’t like the term ‘greatest ever’ because it’s hard to compare players from different eras - but he’s certainly up there with the best in my living memory and probably the best regista I’ve ever seen. Italy couldn’t have won the 2006 World Cup without him, which tells you something.”

@SamDelASR87: “Pirlo is up there with the Zidanes and Ronaldinhos of world football. He has won just about everything and was always a classy man, on and off the pitch. Seeing him hanging up his boots is a sad time for any football fan.”

@GrkMikey: “Andrea Pirlo is one of the players that will always be remembered with the rest of the legends – that's how good he is. He has played for most of the top Serie A clubs and even though he may not be a one-man team, he is dubbed as the 'Maestro', orchestrating every pass that goes by him. The way he opens plays with one pass because of his great vision is like no other.”

The General Football Question: Do you think the Nations League is a good idea?

@EnzoGiordani: “I hate international breaks for friendlies with a burning passion, so anything that might make them more interesting and meaningful is fine with me, as long as Italy takes it seriously. My only concern is that it might take some of the glory away from the European Championships.”

@SamDelASR87: “I actually love the idea. I find it very hard to get motivated by non-Euro and World Cup years. This competition brings a league format to international football. I think it will make fans more passionate. How can you not dig it?”

@GrkMikey: “It appears to be pretty good because instead of pointless friendlies you get to play some quality opposition. The only matter is that it is another competition that can exhaust the players, which some people may not like. I am still excited to see it start though to see if it will meet my expectations!”
