Spugna pleased with early signs of progess

Roma Women coach Alessandro Spugna was upbeat after seeing his side beat Napoli in a first pre-season friendly of the campaign on Sunday.

The Giallorosse ran out 1-0 winners thanks to an early goal from new signing Benedetta Glionna.

Speaking after the game, Spugna was pleased with the progress his side is already making.

"We've just had seven or eight days of hard training, so we knew we weren't going to be in sparkling form straight out of the gate," Spugna said.

"Today there was also a bit of wind out there, which made it tougher to play, but nevertheless we did well - we gave a chance to all the girls who went to the training camp and that's important."

Reflecting on the recent training camp, Spugna was pleased with what he saw from all the girls.

"The squad did well, they trained hard," he said.

"It was a really positive week, over and above the training aspect of it all, because the new players had a chance to integrate too. It was a really positive week.

"We started to work on a few different ideas, but we need to keep building on what the squad did last season - especially in the second part of the season - because they were really playing well.

"So we need to build on that, improving in a few areas, and I think we've started that process."
