The Giallorossi slumped to a 3-1 loss at the Stadio Olimpico Grande Torino despite taking an early lead through Borja Mayoral – as three second half strikes saw the visitors fight back.
The result leaves the side seventh in the Serie A table.
Is it fair to say Roma are now focusing on the Europa League, at the expense of Serie A?
“It shouldn't be like that. The truth is we played two days ago and we had to change a lot of players. Right now we have a few issues in central defence and at full-back, but we don’t have any other options. Nevertheless, I think we could have done more today. If the team is thinking more about the Europa League, then I think they need to get their heads back on Serie A. But that didn’t happen today.”
In the first half you looked like you were going to make it 2-0 – what happened in the second half?
“Yes, we scored the opener and then we created further chances to score a second – but we couldn’t do it. In the second half Torino were better than us, they were more aggressive than we were. They deserved to win.”
The focus we saw against Ajax seemed to be missing again in the league.
“It’s something that’s happened on occasion during the season. Today, it happened again. In the Europa League game the side seemed more focused.”
Is that it for the club’s top-four hopes?
“I have to be honest, we still have a chance but it will be difficult.”
Are there players in your ideal team that are indispensable to you?
“I have a few elements that have been important over the course of the season. [Leonardo] Spinazzola has had a fantastic season. Today we didn’t have the option to use [Riccardo] Calafiori either, as he was tired after the game against Ajax. Also Gianluca Mancini was out, after playing in almost every game recently. And so, when you have to make a lot of changes, things like today can happen.”
