The midfielder steered home with just minutes remaining to clinch a 2-1 win for the Giallorossi, on a night where Leonardo Spinazzola managed to put the ball in the back of the net at both ends of the pitch.
For Diawara, who has seen his season disrupted diagnosed by an earlier Covid diagnosis, it was a night to savour.
“It’s a massive goal for us,” Diawara said. “We dug deep, we really needed that goal. We are all delighted with the result. It was crucial that we won today.
“Playing regularly is always important. I’ve had a few injuries, and there was Covid, but now I’m getting back into top shape.
“During the week we prepared well for the game and I think we deserved to win. They did not create much up front, we didn’t give away much at all."
He added: “We want to keep pushing for the Champions League places, right until the end. We are really focused on staying among the top four.
“I dedicate the goal to my cousin, Benno, who supported me when I had Covid."
