Opinion: 3 notable performances from Sunday's draw

Roma and Juventus shared a 2-2 draw at the Stadio Olimpico on Sunday, with Jordan Veretout at the double for Paulo Fonseca’s side.

Here, we’ve picked out three individual performances that stood out from the Giallorossi’s first home game of the new season...

JORDAN VERETOUT

Veretout was at his very best against the reigning champions, motoring the Roma engine and contributing two decisive strikes.

He first won and then converted the opener from the penalty spot, before adding a vital second to restore his side’s lead on the brink of half time.

That second goal was a superb example of both the 27-year-old’s lung-bursting running from midfield and impeccable composure, as he collected Henrikh Mkhitaryan’s squared pass to cooly finish off an incisive counter-attack.

MARASH KUMBULLA

The 20-year-old Albanian was making his Roma debut just 10 days after signing for the club from Hellas Verona - and against the reigning champions, no less.

And his performance on the left-side of the three-man central defence was an encouraging one up against the Juve front-two of Cristiano Ronaldo and Alvaro Morata.

Kumbulla made a total of nine recoveries in the match and looked remarkably at home for someone who joined so recently, in a positive start for the new defender.

ROGER IBANEZ

In the middle of Roma’s defence, Ibanez was exceptional in sweeping across the backline - another very promising display from the 21-year-old Brazilian, who seems to get better with each passing week.

Not only did he make four clearances, three interceptions and three tackles, but he also blocked another shot and wasn’t once dribbled beyond by a team boasting a number of flying forwards that look to take on and go beyond their man.

Ibanez also made 90 per cent of his passes - crucial in that central spot as the side looked to build out from the back - and was an all-round reassuring presence at the heart of Fonseca’s defence.
