Villar was a second half substitute in Wednesday's 4-1 win over Frosinone, looking to continue a run of form in preseason - and away on international duty - that has seen him catch the eye in many quarters.
"I always try to work as hard as I can. Recently I was with the Spain Under-21 squad and that was big for my confidence," Villar said.
"I feel ready to play more than I did last season."
He added: "I don't mind where - if needed I'll play in goal too! I like playing in central midfield, but like in the last game [against Sambenedettese] I can play as a No. 10 too. I feel comfortable in either role - the main thing for me is I can play."
The midfielder was also asked about the recent injury suffered by Nicolò Zaniolo.
"When I read the news, I was so upset," he said. "I wrote to him immediately to ask him how he was doing.
"It's unbelievably bad news, but I hope he recovers like he did before."
