That set up a second half where the Giallorossi ran riot - especially after Kolarov found the bottom corner from 30 yards just two minutes into the action.

Then it was all about Peres, who scored twice - both with pinpoint strikes of his right foot - to put the game beyond all doubt.

In the dying stages, substitute Zaniolo then ran half the length of the pitch and beat half of the SPAL team before burying his shot, bringing a close to the game in thrilling fashion.

The Giallorossi are back in action on Sunday, as Fiorentina visit the Stadio Olimpico.
