On another nervy night for Roma fans, the team got off to almost the worst start possible - as Juraj Kucka converted from the penalty spot after barely five minutes to give the visitors the lead.
Fonseca's side pushed and probed for an opening and certainly kept Luigi Sepe in the Parma goal busy; but it wasn't until Mkhitaryan coolly dispatched Bruno Peres's low cross that they really looked dangerous.
That strike came at the right time, however, as the hosts emerged for the second half with renewed confidence.
And in the end it was Veretout who decided the game, as he slotted home beautifully from 25 yards out.
