Roma 2-1 Sampdoria: Delightful Dzeko double delivers win!

Edin Dzeko delivered two sublime second half volleys - one on his left foot, one on his right - to ensure Roma came from behind to beat Sampdoria 2-1 on Wednesday.

Back in action for the first time in 115 days due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the Giallorossi went behind early on but were rescued in the end by captain Dzeko - who scored two goals up there with some of the best of his career to rescue the victory.

His first, the equaliser, was perhaps the best of the bunch - as substitute Lorenzo Pellegrini's chipped ball was dispatched first time, on the turn, with a powerful lash of the striker's supposedly 'weaker' left foot.

Moments later the captain then did it again, this time with a more finessed finish on his right foot from Bryan Cristante's deep ball into the box.

Those two erased Manolo Gabbiadini's early opener, a strike that was the difference for the sides for the best part of an hour.

Roma undoubtedly had their chances to get on the scoresheet before that - with Emil Audero denying Dzeko twice inside the opening five minutes, and Jordan Veretout seeing his own incredible strike chalked off by VAR, following an inadvertent handball.

Aleksandar Kolarov also saw his free-kick clatter away off the post, as frustration began to build for the home players.

But coach Paulo Fonseca was moved to make three substitutions on the hour-mark, with one of those - Pellegrini - immediately spotting Dzeko for his breathtaking equaliser.

A second, Cristante, added the slightly more hopeful ball in for Dzeko's second - as the game was turned firmly on its head.

The Giallorossi are back in action again on Sunday, as they travel to face AC Milan.
