Fonseca, as one of the representatives of AS Roma, was a special guest of the Vatican on Sunday, as the church put on a special lunch for hundreds of those facing a daily struggle with poverty.
The Portuguese boss had the chance to meet Pope Francis, as the club handed over special personalised shirts to the Pontiff - one of which was subsequently signed and will be auctioned off to raise further funds for the event.
“Today was an incredibly special day," Fonseca said later on social media.
"I had the honour and privilege to meet Pope Francis. I was able to participate in a lunch - organised by the Vatican, and supported by AS Roma - that welcomed in over 1000 people less fortunate than ourselves.
"Simply unforgettable.”
