Nawid 'GoalMachine' Noorzai, sat down for his first interview before making his debut for the Giallorossi this weekend at the Bucharest FUT Champions Cup...

When did you first start playing FIFA as a hobby?

"To be honest, I’ve been playing FIFA for as long as I can remember - since I was about four or five years old."

When did you realise you could play FIFA competitively? How did your competitive career come about?

“I realised I could play competitive FIFA around December of FIFA 18, when I played a few pros in Weekend League and beat them. After that, I spoke a little bit more to one of the pros, Joey Calabro, and he told me all about competitive FIFA. Then everything else fell into place from there.”

You experienced a meteoric rise in FIFA 18 – going from not playing until December to qualifying for the FIFA eWorld Cup at the end of the season. What was that like?

“It was probably one of the best feelings in the world to know I was able to compete with the best FIFA players, especially when I was just playing casually a few months before.”

Describe your style of play in one word…

“Smart.”

How often do you train and what’s your regimen like?

“Every day I play for at least a few hours to always be comfortable for upcoming qualifiers and events.”

Favourite FIFA of all time and why?

“FIFA 18, because that was when I came onto the competitive scene and it was the one I was really good at.”

Favourite competitive FIFA memory?

“My favourite competitive FIFA memory would have to be the match against Rafsou in the final group game of FeWC 2019 - a match I won 8-6.”

Best FIFA player you have ever come up against?

“Msdossary.”

Biggest rival on the competitive scene?

“I don’t really feel like I have a specific rival, as all the top players are always competing to be the very best.”

Who has been your biggest inspiration personally?

“My biggest inspiration definitely has to be my family. I always try to win and make them proud.”

Do you have any superstitions before a competition?

“Not really, no.”

For the past two years, you've represented Canada on the biggest FIFA stage – how does it feel to be a face for your home country at these big tournaments?

“It honestly feels amazing to represent your country on the biggest stage, and I hope I can continue to do so in the future.”

What’s your biggest professional achievement in your career thus far?

“Making Top 4 on Xbox at FeWC 2019.”

What’s your favourite hobby outside of FIFA?

“My favourite hobby outside of FIFA would have to be spending time with friends and family.”

If you could give one piece of advice to FIFA players seeking to improve their games, what would it be?

“There’s always room for improvement no matter who you are, so just keep grinding.”

How did you react when you first heard of Roma’s interest?

“I was pretty excited when I heard Roma was interested because they’re one of the best clubs in world football.”

Why did you sign for Roma?

“They’re one of the best clubs in the world and I used to love playing with them in FIFA back in the day with Totti and De Rossi, so it was an easy decision to make.”

Favourite Roma player to use on FIFA and why?

“Definitely Scream Dzeko because he has good pace, he’s tall and has amazing finishing.”

'Damie' is now your Roma teammate – what are your first impressions of how the squad is shaping up?

“The squad is looking really good. I’ve seen Damie play before and know he’s an excellent player, so I’m excited to see what this season brings us.”
