Perotti pleased with pre-season efforts

Diego Perotti expressed his satisfaction with Roma's pre-season preparations, after the Giallorossi finished off their final friendly with a 3-1 win over Arezzo.

Paulo Fonseca's side won nine of their 10 matches during pre-season preparations (five of them being training matches held at Trigoria), with Perotti, Edin Dzeko and Justin Kluivert scoring the goals as that run of form was completed at the Stadio Citta di Arezzo.

With the first game of the Serie A season, at home to Genoa, now just eight days away, Perotti feels the side is ready to hit the ground running.

"Arezzo played well tonight, they made it tough for us, it was a good test," Perotti told Roma TV.

"At the start we were not able to replicate what we did against Real Madrid, but slowly we got into our rhythm and we deserved to win."

Ten friendlies, nine wins - the results don’t count but it all helps ahead of the start of the season...

"Yes, it’s important, we’ve played some great sides as well and we have won almost every game. We are satisfied. Obviously we are still not quite at 100% physically, the legs aren’t quite there just yet, but we are in a good place to start the season against a Genoa side that played well the other day. It won’t be easy."

Among the changes Fonseca has made is a more central role for the wingers, but you are used to that...

"It’s a way of playing that keeps you closer to your striker and to the goal, so it means you have a better chance of scoring goals. I think we’ve done a decent job of doing what the coach wants - even if it is never easy when a new coach comes in. I think we can start the season well."

It has been a week of renewals: Zaniolo, Cengiz and Dzeko. What has that meant for the dressing room?

"It’s meant a lot, they are three key players - two youngsters and one with a lot of experience that it would never be easy to replace. The club has done well.

"We have things in place to do well; the transfer market is still open but so far we can be pleased with what’s been done.”
