Lopez, a summer signing from Real Betis, goes into the new campaign looking to establish himself as the club’s No. 1 – but believes the team as a whole must take things step-by-step as they adapt to life under the Portuguese coach.
“I don’t like to make targets at the start of the season,” Lopez told Sky Sport Italia.
“Roma is a great side and it’s only right that we are ambitious and aim to finish as high as we can.”
The Giallorossi open the season at home to Genoa at the end of this month.
“The first target is to win the opening game of the season and then take things game by game,” the Spaniard added.
“It’s good to have long-term objectives to create enthusiasm among the supporters.
“We are working hard every day to do what the coach wants from us, trying to become a compact side that plays high up the pitch. I’m also working very hard with Marco Savorani, especially on technique. Every small detail that can be addressed will help me improve and will help me to help the team.”
