16 years ago, the Olimpico honours Aldair

On 2 June 2003, fans at the Stadio Olimpico said farewell to defender Aldair at the end of his 13-season stint with the Giallorossi

Aldair Day saw a match involving a selection of the Brazilian’s team-mates, from his time at Roma and in the national team, with which he won one World Cup, two Copa Americas and one Confederations Cup

On one side there were Roma greats including Balbo, Rizzitelli, Giannini, Totti and Nela, and on the other were the likes of Romario, Rai, Dunga and Leonardo, as well as Ronaldo on the side-lines.

Aldair came to Roma in 1990 from Benfica and went on to make 436 appearances and score 20 goals for the club, winning one Scudetto title, one Coppa Italia and one Italian Super Cup.

The defender has been in the Club Hall of Fame since 2012, the year in which it was created.
