Bavagnoli: We need to be at our best against Fiorentina

Roma Women coach Betty Bavagnoli knows her side will have to be at their best when they go up against Fiorentina in the Coppa Italia on Wednesday afternoon.

The Giallorosse host their vaunted opponents at Stadio Tre Fontane, in the first leg of the semi-finals of the competition. Getting to the final of the competition would be a huge result for the team, especially in their first season as a club, but Bavagnoli knows it will not come easy.

“I expect a tough game against Fiorentina but we are really focused on the Coppa Italia – it’s a huge target for us,” Bavagnoli said.

“We are aware that Fiorentina will not give us anything for free, so it will definitely be a difficult, hard-fought game for us.

“It’s also the first game after the international break, but we have been training well even without all the girls available to us. The last few days we have tried to rediscover that spark we need to start on Wednesday at 100%.”

The side have not played a competitive fixture in almost three weeks because of the recent extender international break – but Bavagnoli is hopeful the side responds well to the break in what will be an important few days.

After the Fiorentina game, the Giallorosse travel to Verona on Saturday to face Chievo in a Serie A game that could go a long way to confirming a top-four finish for the side.

“Getting going again after a break can always be a little difficult, especially from a psychological standpoint, but I think we are prepared – we’ve been staying focused during training,” Bavagnoli added.

“We are ready to play hard until the final whistle. I feel this is a massively important week for us – not just because of the Coppa Italia, but also because we have a key league game against Chievo.”

Wednesday’s game against Fiorentina gets underway at 13:00 local time at Tre Fontane. Entrance is free for all spectators.

The match will be broadcast live on Sky Sport in Italy, meaning unfortunately it cannot be streamed on Twitter.
