Italy, making their first appearance in the tournament for more than 20 years, came from behind to beat the Australians - thanks to Barbara Bonansea's stoppage time strike.
Bartoli was a half-time introduction for the side - when they were 1-0 down - and helped turn the game on its head.
"Before I came on I felt sick to my stomach, I was so nervous," Bartoli said.
"But I think I did my bit to help the team.
She added: "Switching to a 4-4-2 gave us a bit more stability and more threat in the wide areas, and that is what we wanted. We manage to turn the game around and we are delighted with that.
"We know games can be decided in moments - by a corner, or a free-kick - and the small details can make the difference. And that's what happened."
The Azzurre are in action next on Friday, as they face Jamaica in Reims.
