Roma 3-2 Torino: Giallorossi dig deep to clinch victory

Stephan El Shaarawy scored the late winner as Roma recovered from squandering an early two-goal advantage to clinch a 3-2 victory over Torino on Saturday.

The Giallorossi kicked off the first Serie A game of 2019 by grabbing a vital three points - against a side that had previously not lost on their travels in the league.

Nicolo Zaniolo opened the scoring in amazing fashion for Eusebio Di Francesco's team, before Aleksandar Kolarov calmly doubled the advantage from the penalty spot shortly before half-time.

But Torino - aided by some controversial refereeing decisions - clawed their way back into the match in the second half, as first Tomas Rincon and then Cristian Ansaldi scored from long range.

Roma were shellshocked but, as the rain started to pour down in the capital, they regrouped and - after fine interplay from substitute Patrik Schick and Lorenzo Pellegrini - it was El Shaarawy who fired past Salvatore Sirigu to decide the game once and for all.
