After claiming their first win of the season on Saturday against Florentia, Betty Bavagnoli's side built on that result with another positive performance - although they only received the reward their endeavour deserved at the very end, as captain Elisa Bartoli (via the help of a deflection) and substitute Flaminia Simonetti both scored in the final 10 minutes to rescue a point.
“The girls did a brilliant job of believing, of fighting, right until the end,” Bavagnoli said. “In this respect, I can’t criticise them at all.
“But I’m a bit disappointed we did not make more of our performance. We spent a lot of time in their half, created a lot of chances, but did not score them.
"We still have to become more clinical, more convincing in front of goal. But we will continue to work on this.”
The Giallorosse were in control for large parts of the contest, and created almost all the major chances of the first half. Yet midway through the second half they found themselves down 2-0 after a quickfire brace on the counter-attack, and staring defeat in the face.
That led Bavagnoli to change things, with Simonetti introduced off the bench. And, after captain Bartoli had halved the deficit, it was the midfielder-turned-forward who would grab the equaliser; as he rampaging run was rewarded as an attempted clearance ricocheted off her and into the unguarded net.
“I’ve had an issue with my knee, but during the week the coach was asking me how I was feeling," Simonetti said afterwards.
"I will play wherever the team needs me. Attack is not my position, I don’t know the role so well, but I wanted to help the team.”
Bavagnoli added: "We moved Bartoli into midfield, and I knew Simonetti could add something with her creativity. Fortunately, the changes worked out well."
