Perotti: Try to score at least two in Madrid

The Argentine is convinced Roma have it in them to overcome Real Madrid in the last-16 of the Champions League

Diego Perotti is convinced Roma have it in them to overcome Real Madrid in the last-16 of the Champions League.

In the pre-match press conference held at the Bernabeu this afternoon, the Argentine stressed that while he understands it will be difficult, he nevertheless has faith in his team-mates.

"We're going to try to score at least twice in Madrid," Perotti declared. "It won't be easy, but anything can happen in football. I have faith in my team."

What has given you this confidence in the team?

"Winning seven out of seven playing good football and scoring bags of goals puts us in good stead. We know that the minimum required tomorrow is two goals.

"Having this confidence going into games means that while we know it won't be easy, anything is possible in football."

Schalke were in a similar situation to you last year. Do you think you'll have chances?

"Yes, I remember that game well. We've shown that we're capable of winning seven matches back-to-back in Serie A – scoring loads of goals at the same time – so we hope we can do the same tomorrow."

Did you watch Real's last match and Cristiano Ronaldo's four goals?

"Yes, no other player has scored as many goals as him. He barely misses any games and is practically never injured. He's won everything and is a player we should look up to."

What's the secret behind your success in Italy compared to your time in Spain?

"There are no secrets. When I moved to Genoa and I didn't have the injuries I suffered in La Liga. I felt in good shape and it's the same here with Roma. I'm delighted I can play without physical problems."

You've added more goals to your repertoire as well...

"I've always said that scoring more goals is an area where I can improve because ultimately I'm an attacking player. I was in the team as soon as I moved to Roma and this also made me feel good.

"It's true that historically I've always supplied more assists but I'd like to improve and score more often."

How much more can you improve?

"I think you can always get better. I'm here to learn from the gaffer and the top players I have next to me. As I've said, the aim is to contribute more goals, that's also why I'm here.

"I've got a lot more to offer and I hope I can continue to do so at Roma for many years."
