Nainggolan: We've made great strides as a group

Radja Nainggolan reckons team spirit and the willingness of everybody in the squad to contribute are behind Roma's revival in the second half of the season

“We've made great strides as a group above all, we're all fighting for each other on the pitch,” the midfielder said after Roma v Chievo. “We controlled possession for the whole game and attacked from the first minute.

“The team has been on a great run and has proved we're a top side.”

Six goals in a season is a personal record for you.

“Yes and they've all come in the second half of the season. However, the main thing for me is always the result of the team. You play and win as a team. The gaffer has asked us to work hard and we've all got stuck in. Even the subs coming on have the right attitude and are making a difference.”

Now you have to wait for Napoli's away trip to Torino this season.

“Let's hope Torino can pull off a coup and help us put second spot in our sights. Napoli play good football but Torino caused us problems. We hope they can do us a favour.”

What's the secret behind your goals on the turn?

“I have an attacking instinct, when I see the ball and try to hit it in whatever way comes naturally. I've scored three similar goals this year but scoring goals is not my main objective. I'm always ready to do what I can for the coach and my team-mates. I give it my all for everyone in the team.”

We saw a special celebration after your goal today.

“It's Mother's Day today and I've lost my mum, so I dedicated it to her. I miss her.”

There was love in the air at the Olimpico today and a lot of cheering in your direction.

“It's always a delight to hear that. Any player who gives everything they have for the shirt of the local team is appreciated.”
