There is a lot at stake for Roma when they visit the Estadio de Dragâo to take on Porto in the first leg of the Champions League play-off round.
Wayne Girard takes a look at three players that could complicate Roma’s Champions League aspirations…
Captain of the Dragões, the box-to-box midfielder started the Primeira Liga season by grabbing a goal in the win against Rio Ave. The 26-year-old is often found working hard to keep the ball out of his half, and is equally determined to push the attack forward.
A key figure in Mexico’s 2014 World Cup campaign, Herrera started all three group stage matches and played a full 90 minutes in the round of 16 loss against the Netherlands.
Roma’s midfield will be tested by the physicality and endurance of 'the Skunk' come Wednesday night.

The 23-year-old also began Porto’s domestic season by scoring in a scintillating display in their win over Rio Ave. A fellow Mexican international, Corona’s displays on the right side of the forward line have proved him to be one of the trickiest players to mark.
At 1.73 metres tall, he makes the most of his low center of gravity, typically keeping the ball close to his body while he dribbles against the opponent. The focus on him from opposing players often allows the rest of Porto’s attack to flow, as incisive runs open up space for the strikers to receive the ball.
He will be looking to beat his nine-goal tally from last season and score in his second consecutive match.

Signing this summer on a five-year deal, the centre-back known simply as 'Felipe' relies on his speed and aerial dominance to stymie his opponents’ attack.
109 matches in five years for Corinthians speaks to his dependability, while the 2012 FIFA Club World Cup, 2015 Brazil Serie A championship, and 2016 Paulista Team of the Year award speak to his quality as a player.
He received his first call up to the Selecao in a 2018 World Cup qualifier against Paraguay, and will be determined to give a dutiful performance and continue his important role for the Dragões.
Roma’s attack will need to combine well in order to beat the sturdy defender.
