Emerson: We have to believe in our brand of football

It was a game of two halves...

“We had a slightly anxious start to proceedings and made mistakes as we tried to score early on and begin well. We sorted things out in the second half and the coach advised us to relax a bit more. We came back out and put together a good win."

What did [Luciano] Spalletti ask of you and [Bruno] Peres on the flanks?

“He wanted balance. If one of us pushed on, the other had to sit deep. We changed mentality in the second period and got forward more to help out the attack."

Could you have done more as a team in the opening 45 minutes?

“We could have done more, taken on the opposition and beaten players. We did that to a greater extent in the second half and that's how we won the match."

Spalletti has shown faith in you, how are you feeling?

“I feel good mentally. The coach backs everyone and I feel good. I always want to play and perform well. Every time we pull on these colours we have to be confident in our brand of football."

You came on a lot after the break thanks in part to your link-up play with [Diego] Perotti...

“Yes, we had a good understanding down the left side after Diego came on and we helped to win the match."
