Roma Primavera got their UEFA Youth League campaign off to a strong start with a 3-0 win against APOEL Nicosia in Cyprus on Wednesday.

Alberto De Rossi's side built a healthy first leg advantage in the away game, thanks to a brace from forward Marco Tumminello and late finish from Emanuele Spinozzi, that puts them in a good position as they look to reach the next round.

Afterwards the coach expressed his pleasure with the nature of the performancee.

"The lads put in a fantastic performance to pick up a great result ahead of the return leg," De Rossi said.

"We really needed that, looking at the tiring start to the season we've had.

"We played as a team with consistency, helping our team-mates in need. It's very positive for a coach to see his team play in this manner, everyone working for the same objective."

The return leg takes place on 19 October in Rome.
