The versatile defender scored at the Stadio Olimpico on Thursday night in what looked like being an impressive win for the Giallorossi, until two late goals for the visitors saw the game end in a frustrating 3-3 draw.
“The draw is not a cause for concern but it should ignite the fire in our bellies that we sometimes lack," Florenzi said. "When you're 3-1 up in the 81st minute you can't draw a game like this.
"You have to keep hold of the ball and control things – as we had done for the whole game up to then.
"You can't let in two goals in three minutes, no matter who's out there.
"It's about staying focused as well as lots of other things that we sometimes fail to do – and not for the first time.”
Is that the last step you need to take to go from a good team to a great team?
“Probably, yes. You have to stay focused for the whole 90 minutes with no lapses, no ups and downs. If you're winning in the 81st minute you have to see out the game, get the three points and send the other team away with none. You have to reproduce a whole series of good things that we showed against Napoli and Inter – that's what we need to look at, while learning from our mistakes to make sure we don't make any more on Sunday.”
You normally play at a very high tempo. Is it when the tempo drops that you find it hard?
“We should always play at 200 kmph and always give 120% but I don't think our commitment was lacking. Those three minutes were a just lapse in concentration but we mustn't do it anymore.
“I'd also like to say, for the record, that I was the one who asked the coach to take me off.”
