Dzeko proud of 'tough' performance

DZKO

Edin Dzeko was sure to pay tribute to another comprehensive defensive performance as Roma picked up a valuable three points against Cagliari on Sunday.

Dzeko was the hero of the hour - scoring in fine style shortly after the break to break the deadlock - but the game also saw the defence keep another clean sheet, something the striker was keen to point out.

“It’s a really important win," Dzeko said. "The match was very tough. Cagliari are a good side and they showed that this evening.

"It was absolutely key for us to win this game and we did our job. We just need to keep focusing on what we’re doing.”

Another 1-0 win, earned with real fight and desire…

“We said before that we’d need to be able to win 1-0; it’s another way to pick up three points. The defence did its job and so did we up front. Now we’ll be able to recuperate and look ahead to another important game on Sunday.”

Scoring, hitting the bar… you were no push-over tonight.

“No, that was clear to see this evening! Jokes aside, as I said before, the first half was tough. I missed a good chance, after a lovely ball from Daniele [De Rossi]. Then in the second half I did my thing. Being ruthless, as the coach says. We need to keep going like this.”

Do you think it’ll be yourselves, Juventus and Napoli battling it out for the Scudetto?

“It’s only about Roma; we’re just focusing on ourselves and on winning our games.”
