AS Roma is to use International Women’s Day on 8 March to raise awareness for the fight against breast cancer, with the Roma Cares Foundation teaming up with Susan G. Komen Italia for the occasion.
The club has decided to create a special pink version of the Roma badge to be used on all its official digital channels. Throughout the day, AS Roma’s profile pictures and cover photos on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram will feature a completely pink version of the club badge.
This is common practice for many NFL and NBA clubs in the United States during Breast Cancer Awareness Month in October.
The Roma TV logo will also be getting a pink makeover, with the channel set to broadcast a short promo designed to raise awareness around breast cancer featuring first-team players Alisson Becker and Federico Fazio.
Meanwhile, Roma Radio will broadcast adverts highlighting the cause regularly throughout the day.
It is vital that people are made aware that if simple, secondary prevention checks are carried out on a regular basis, it is possible to detect breast cancer in its earliest stages. If the cancer is caught early enough, treatment is simpler and less invasive and chances of a complete recovery increase to over 90%.
In addition to this initiative, Komen Italia’s mobile mammography unit will be stationed at the AS Roma Football School at CONI’s Centro Giulio Onesti on 8 March, offering free mammographs and ultrasound scans to mothers of the youngsters.
Later in the day, at around 15:00 CET, the class of 2004 girls team will don jerseys bearing the pink bow – the breast cancer symbol – to take on Bologna for the Susan G. Komen Italia trophy, also at the Centro Giulio Onesti.
The initiative will be the first time that a Serie A team has temporarily changed its brand identity to show its support for a social cause.
