"Now we go into the Dortmund tournament which is a very prestigious competition," De Rossi told Roma TV before his side's departure for Germany. "You only need to look at the calibre of the other teams involved. This will allow us to step up our pre-season preparations and help us to gauge where we are ahead of the Youth League."
How did your week in the mountains in Trentino go?
"You have to say it's a good week when you come away unscathed with a clean bill of health. We did plenty of hard graft and completed everything we had planned which is a good start. The lads deserve credit for the lack of hiccups - that means they came to Trentino ready to go."
What targets did you set in the mountains?
"It was a chance for the staff to get to know the new lads who have joined the group and to begin working on a formation which will likely be a little different to the previous one. We made the most of the time to prepare for the exciting start to the new campaign."
What system are you considering employing?
"The formation is determined by the players, their attributes and how they apply themselves. It could change over the course of the year. Last term we began with a 4-3-3 before moving to a 4-3-1-2 that we were familiar with and finishing with a 4-4-2. Those are just numbers however. What matters is how the players apply themselves day in, day out."
Speaking of which, what have you made of the new faces?
"They've appeared relaxed and full of desire. Some of them are still a little sheepish but I'm sure the more experienced lads will bring them out of their shell."
