El Shaarawy: It's our turn for a trophy this year

Stephan El Shaarawy has set his sights on claiming some silverware with Roma this season – insisting it's no less than the club and the fans deserve

The Italy forward was speaking from the Giallorossi camp in Boston, where he is currently recovering from a back problem.

“Our aim as a team has to be to lift a trophy because the fans deserve it,” the 24-year-old told Roma TV.

“I think we players deserve one too because we've been doing really well.”

How are you feeling personally?

“Good, thanks. I just had this minor back problem but it's nothing serious – more an annoyance really. It takes a while to go away. Everything's going well though and I'm recovering now. Hopefully I'll be back in full training before long.”

Wingers are a key part of Eusebio Di Francesco's game – that's ideal for you...

“Yes, I've seen a few training sessions and I've spoken to the coach. He expects a lot from his wide men. We just have to listen to him because he's a very capable coach. We're delighted to have him here. Now we need to work hard to make sure we're ready for the start of the season.”

There seems to be a good mood in the camp. Is that right?

“Yes, there's certainly a great deal of enthusiasm in the air. We have young players keen to show what they can do and new players coming in who can help us a lot. Everything's in place for us to have a great season. I don't know if we'll sign any more players but in any case we're already very well set for what lies ahead.”

What are your personal objectives for the year?

“I want to start as I finished last season and of course it would be nice to score lots of goals too.”
