Florenzi: Juventus trip a key moment in our development

Alessandro Florenzi believes Saturday's Serie A showdown with Juventus in Turin will prove a litmus test of this Roma side's development.

The Giallorossi go into the game firmly in the hunt at the top of the Serie A, although they are looking to bounce back after a disappointing Coppa Italia defeat against Torino on Wednesday evening.

And Florenzi believes the game at the home of the Italian champions will be a critical test for Eusebio Di Francesco's side.

Read everything the full-back had to say during his interview with Sky Sport Italia on Thursday.

How much did the cup exit against Torino hurt?

“It hurt a lot, for sure. We’re disappointed, but we mustn’t turn it into a tragedy. It was our aim to advance in the cup, but it didn’t happen, so now let’s focus on the next game, which is very important.”

How important is Juventus v Roma to understand where you are in your development?

“It’s a key moment in Roma’s development. It’s worth three points, just like the last game we won against Cagliari, but it will tell us what stage we’re at.”

You’ve got the best defence at the moment – are you becoming like Juventus?

“Everything comes from hard work. I’m sure that goals will come easier in our upcoming fixtures. We work on this every day, as we do on the defensive side of things, which is producing results at the moment. We hope to continue in the same way at the back, but I’m confident we’ll improve up front as well.”

What does defensive solidity depend upon?

“It begins with the three in attack, without question. Their pressing helps us to defend and stay high up the pitch.”

Miralem Pjanic said that when he was at Roma, you’d play well but often lacked something in head-to-heads. Has it changed since then?

“Finishing first in our Champions League group gives you your answer already. Now we have to do it in Serie A, not only against Juve but all the teams we face. I think we have a decent squad to have a good season.”

Who would you take from Juve?

“Paulo Dybala, he’s a superstar.”

It seems the Allianz Stadium holds bad luck for you…

“They are a great team, a relentless machine, plus they’re champions of Italy so it’s not going to be easy to play there. Nevertheless, we’ll try to buck the trend and get some points in Turin.”

How’s the situation with your contract renewal?

“My agent deals with these things. He’s an important person in my life: I leave it all up to him, while I concentrate on the pitch. He’s the best agent around for me and has been with me for a while.”

Does the Scudetto depend on the result of Saturday evening in Turin?

“No, it’s an important game, but it won’t decide the league winners.”
