The Ukrainian champions – currently in the midst of an extended winter break – will face the Giallorossi for a place in the quarter-finals of the competition, with the first leg taking place in Kharkiv on February 21.
And Butko, while aware of Roma’s ability, believes Paulo Fonseca’s side can look forward to the tie with the confidence.
“I think that Roma for Shakhtar is not the worst option,” Butko said. “We haven’t scrutinized the opponents yet. We will be doing that a little later, with the coaching staff pointing out the strengths and weaknesses of the opponents.
“Roma have always ranked among the best European clubs. The fact that the Romans are through to the Champions League [knockout stages] confirms their high level.
“Again, at this stage there can’t be any easy opponents. But, I think Shakhtar have a good chance of reaching the quarter-finals in the competition. I would like to see the full stadium in Kharkiv. The fans’ support is of great importance to us.”
