After beating Shakhtar Donetsk and Barcelona en route to the semi-finals, it is now Jurgen Klopp's Premier League side who stand between Roma and a place in May's European final.
It is just the second time Roma have reached the last four in the European Cup or Champions League. Back in 1984, Nils Liedholm's side lost in the final - to Liverpool.
“It feels like a great opportunity to chase the joy that we were not able to experience so many years ago,” club sporting director Monchi said. “But of course it will be difficult, because Liverpool are an extremely strong side.
“We need to think about ourselves, and reproduce what we were able to show against Barcelona.”
Chief executive Umberto Gandini echoed those comments, saying the side would carry the flag for the city and country with pride.
“We have the desire to play for our city and for Italian football,” Gandini said. “We will prepare for this as well as we can, with humility and focus.
"It’s important to play a good game at Anfield, after which we have the slight advantage of playing the second leg at home – where we will have the great passion of our fans to push us on.”
Managing director Mauro Baldissoni hoped that having the second leg at the Stadio Olimpico could once again prove a significant advantage.
“We will see two sides that know each other and respect each other – the factor that I hope could end up being decisive is that we have the second leg at home," he said.
"As a club, we need to remember that we fully deserve to have reached this stage, and must continue to play our way and do everything we can to go on and reach the final.”
