Schick delighted to get off the mark in the league

GLK

Patrik Schick acknowledged his delight at finally getting off the mark in Serie A for Roma, as he helped the Giallorossi to a 3-0 win over SPAL on Saturday.

The Czech striker nodded home from Lorenzo Pellegrini's cross on the hour-mark to wrap up the three points for Roma - perfect preparations, both for him and the team, ahead of Tuesday's Champions League trip to face Liverpool.

“Yes, at last! It was too long in coming," Scihck said of his goal. "I always try to do my bit for the team and I knew the goal would come for me.”

You've said you didn't expect to find it so hard this season. Do you think you can kick on from here now? Was there too much pressure on you?

“The first part of the season didn't go as I'd hoped. I had lots of injury problems. Now I'm able to get on with my job without any niggles. I'm happy to have finally scored.”

Edin Dzeko was cheering for you from the bench. How important is it for you to have your team-mates' support?

“Edin is a good friend and it's nice to know he was happy when I scored. I'm glad to have his support.”

You secured a great result today. Was that the best way to prepare for the first leg of the Champions League semi-final?

“It was hot out there today but 3-0 is an excellent result going into our game against Liverpool. Now we have to prepare well for that one and hopefully win there too.”

What will Roma need to do at Anfield?

“We must be as determined as we were against Barcelona. That's how we need to play.”

You've scored in the Coppa Italia and Serie A so you just have the Champions League to go now…

“Let's hope I can get that one too!”
