Recap: Opening defeat for Giallorossi despite Schick strike

TOP

Roma began their International Champions Cup campaign with a 4-1 defeat against Tottenham Hotspur at San Diego's SDCCU Stadium on Wednesday evening.

The Giallorossi took an immediate lead through Patrik Schick - the striker grabbing his fifth goal in just three pre-season games - only for both Fernando Llorente and Lucas Moura to strike twice before the break for the Premier League side.

A second half filled with substitutions saw Eusebio Di Francesco's side settle and begin to create the better openings - but a change in the scoreline would not be forthcoming.

Indeed, throughout the game the Giallorossi had their chances to even up the scoreline, only to see a combination of errant finishing and fine goalkeeping thwart them.

Substitutes Edin Dzeko and Ante Coric both saw great attempts parried away by the Spurs goalkeeper, while Cengiz Under was unfortunate to fire wide midway through the first half.

With every fully fit player getting a run-our - Alessandro Florenzi, despite recently suffering a broken nose, made a late cameo - the game was not without value for Di Francesco.

Roma are next in action in Dallas on Tuesday 31 July, as they face Barcelona.
