A new study released by Shareablee, an American company that boasts the world’s largest system of brand performance data across social platforms, has today outlined how AS Roma was the best performing football club on Twitter in April

Each month Shareablee analyse, track and rank the social postings of over 500,000 global brands, including every European football club, and their findings for April highlight just how well Roma performed on the social media platform.

The No.1 tweet in terms of actions – likes and retweets - from any football club in April belonged to Roma’s Italian account with a rather manic full-time post generating 182,000 retweets and 320,000 Likes.

Roma also registered the second and third biggest tweets of the month with a version of the ‘ If you don’t love me…’ meme boasting 79,000 retweets and 160,000 likes and a joke about a Francesco Totti goal against Lazio attracting 63,000 retweets and 113,000 likes.

Arsenal’s Twitter account recorded the fourth and fifth most successful tweets of the month with posts breaking the news that coach Arsene Wenger would be leaving the club.

Of the Top 10 most-liked tweets by European football clubs in April, half belonged to Roma – with the first, second, third, seventh and ninth being posted by the Giallorossi.

Roma was also responsible for the most viewed video on Twitter by any football club in April – with a meme about Harry Kane scoring in the Derby della Capitale clocking up 3.07m video views.

The second biggest football club twitter video in April belonged to Real Madrid, with a Ronaldo overhead kick in training registering 2.37m views.

The third biggest video in April was another Roma tweet, with 1.93m views of a video showing the club’s players and staff visiting the Hillsborough memorial at Anfield to lay a wreath for the 96 Liverpool fans who died in the stadium disaster in 1989.

Roma’s English Twitter account, which generated 93m Twitter impressions and 7.8m video views in April, also finished No.1 out of all Europe football clubs based on Unique Engaged Audience, with an engagement percentage over four times bigger than the second-placed club.

In the table for overall actions on the Twitter platform in April, Roma’s English-language account with 200,000 followers came in 8th, despite being ranked 102nd for total followers.

Roma's Italian account finished in 11th place, 10 places higher than its ranking in terms of actual followers.
