The head coach, who took over the reins at the Stadio Olimpico 12 months ago, committed his future to the Giallorossi on Monday – signing a new deal that keeps him at the club until June 2020.
And, speaking after signing the extension, Di Francesco – who won the Serie A title with the club in 2001 – did not hide his delight at getting the opportunity to continue his project.
“Last year, when I arrived it really felt like I was back home,” Di Francesco said. “Today I can say that I have found my place of residence.
“It is an important statement from the club and the sporting director that they want continuity and stability for our project. Personally, it is a reason to feel very proud and motivated.”
As he reflected on his achievements so far, he added: “We played brilliantly in the Champions League season. As for Serie A, we want to return for the new campaign with the aim of doing much better.”
The Giallorossi finished third in Di Francesco’s debut campaign in the dugout, albeit some distance behind winners Juventus and second-place Napoli.
“The objective for next season is to improve in all areas - technically, mentally – with an appreciation of what we were able to achieve last season but without resting on those memories,” he added.
“We have to have the desire to improve day-in and day-out – and that goes not just for the players, but also for the coaching staff and myself.”
Roma have already made a number of signings in the summer transfer market, with Di Francesco working closely with the club’s hierarchy to identify appropriate targets.
“As for the transfer market, I am in constant communication with Monchi,” he added. “A few players have already arrived and I am very pleased.
“The transfer market always has an unpredictable element, which makes speaking definitively about things today impossible. But we are trying to create a competitive squad in every possible way.”
