On 1 July, the AS Roma Autistic Football Club was officially launched. It’s a new Giallorossi team for players with autism spectrum disorder, established by adopting the ‘Autistic Football Club’ project originally created by SS Romulea.
Launched in 2023, the ‘AS Roma for Special’ project is entering a new phase of development which is aimed at expanding sports and inclusion opportunities for individuals with intellectual and social disabilities. As part of this, the club identified the Autistic Football Club project as the ideal initiative to ensure continuity and provide further momentum to the AS Roma for Special project, taking over the collaboration previously held with the CassiAvass Cooperative, which concluded on 30 June.
The creation of the AS Roma Autistic Football Club is part of the club's strategy to expand its activities within FIGC’s Paralympic Football Division. The goal is to strengthen the project's impact on society and offer an increasing number of athletes and families the chance to enjoy a sporting, educational and inclusive experience while wearing the Giallorossi colours.
This new chapter underscores AS Roma’s commitment to promoting football as a tool for inclusion, participation and personal growth, while strengthening its ties with the local community and helping to foster a sporting culture that is increasingly accessible and open to everyone.
The club would like to extend its heartfelt thanks to the athletes who have proudly represented AS Roma for Special over the years, as well as to the coaching staff, educators and managers at the CassiAvass Cooperative for their invaluable work and the results achieved together. This legacy of relationships and values forms the foundation upon which the AS Roma Autistic Football Club will begin its work.
