Father of child accompanied by Gasperini on Sunday writes a letter for the coach

We have received a letter from Gabriele Divano, who is the father of Alexander, the boy who accompanied Gian Piero Gasperini out to the middle of the pitch before Genoa v Roma.

The moment was caught on camera by DAZN and touched the hearts of football fans everywhere.

The letter

Dear Mr Gasperini,

I am writing to you to express my utmost gratitude.

I am the father of the child who had the honour of holding your hand as you walked out to the centre of the pitch before Genoa v Roma on Sunday.

We live in Genoa but my son – and I must admit his dad is to blame – has been a massive Roma fan ever since he was very young. I organised the experience to give him the chance to meet his idols, but seeing you stop to give him your time and your protection, despite the tension in the build-up to the game, was very moving.

Football is a fast-paced sport and your actions were a rare demonstration of sensitivity. It gave my son an unforgettable memory and for me it was a deeply touching moment.

Thank you for such a lovely gesture.

I'm sending you one of the photos taken by a pitchside photographer, which captures the beauty of that moment. I wanted you to have a copy too.

After the game my son and I made a promise: next year we will be big enough to finally come to Rome to see the team play at the Olimpico for the first time.

Kindest regards,

Gabriele Divano and Alexander
