Arena: “My first goal, an unforgettable feeling”

The goal against Torino in the Coppa Italia made Antonio Arena the third-youngest goalscorer in Roma history, behind Amedeo Amedei and Stefano Okaka.

Amedei scored his first goal at 15 years and 287 days old, followed by Okaka at 16 years and 121 days, while Arena found the back of the net at 16 years and 337 days.

Here are the player’s post-match comments.

Tell us how you feel.

“I went to the far post. I saw that Wesley was crossing the ball, it came right to my head and I scored: it was a wonderful, unforgettable feeling.”

Is there a forward you look up to?

“I want to become as good a player as possible. I want to work hard all the time. Nothing is going to change from today onwards. I will keep working as I have so far and focus on our next game.”

Can you describe your playing style? How important are the lessons you learn every day from Gian Piero Gasperini?

“I like to attack the space. Our coach’s training sessions are very demanding, but I always learn something new. I’m also learning by observing our forwards: [Paulo] Dybala, [Artem] Dovbyk, [Evan] Ferguson, [Matias] Soule. I’ve only been at Roma for six months: I believe I’ve already made some improvements, but I still have a lot to learn. I’m happy I scored, but as I’ve already said, nothing has changed.”
