The International Day of Persons with Disabilities is observed on 3 December, having been established by the UN in 1992 with the aim of promoting full inclusion, the protection of rights and the enhancement of the dignity of persons with disabilities across all areas of society.
For this reason, on the pitch dedicated to the memory of Agostino Di Bartolomei inside the Centro Sportivo Fulvio Bernardini, an encounter rich in significance took place, inspired by the “Football for all abilities” policy within the club’s Sustainability Strategy.
The young players in the under-18 side, coached by Mattia Scala, welcomed the athletes of AS Roma For Special for a joint training session followed by a friendly match.
For the boys and girls with intellectual and relational disabilities, it was an opportunity to return home and show everyone how football is a universal language that unites, inspires and breaks down barriers, promoting integration, growth and participation for all.
Run by the CassiAvass Social Cooperative Onlus on behalf of AS Roma, the “For Special” team is made up of 21 male and female athletes aged between 17 and 40 with intellectual and relational disabilities, all united by the same passion: football and the Giallorossi colours in particular.
The team take part in tournaments organised by FIGC’s Paralympic and Experimental Football Division, offering those involved the chance to experience the full emotions of a season, proudly wearing the AS Roma shirt and feeling part of a large Giallorossi family.
It is a project that AS Roma proudly carry forward to offer people with disabilities the chance to nurture a genuine passion and defend the club’s colours on the pitch.
