Juric's thoughts after Roma’s comeback against Venezia

Ivan Juric was interviewed by DAZN following Roma’s 2-1 victory over Venezia.

Here’s what he had to say…

Roma were unable to find much room for manoeuvre in the first half but after the break the team created space. Your substitutes played a decisive role.

"In the second half we raised the tempo. We played better, we were fresher – that’s how I saw it. Let's not forget that on Thursday night we had a very gruelling game so it’s understandable that some players were a bit off the pace.”

The most satisfying part of today must be Nicolo Pisilli’s goal…

"We have four or five young players who we can develop – they’re talented, full of energy and eager to learn. They’re so enthusiastic. You’ve obviously got to make the right choices, but I think they’re doing well. They’re great players, pure talent. I’m a massive fan of all of them: Pisilli, [Tomasso] Baldanzi, [Matias] Soule, Manu Kone. They’re top people.”

Roma won the game in the second half as you tried to assert dominance on the game. Your desire to attack paid dividends.

“We changed to a back four which worked well for us. We then reverted to a three with an extra midfielder in order to create numerical superiority, and we carried this out to perfection. Our substitutes, including [Leandro] Paredes, did a great job. As I said before, some of my players were a bit sluggish to react at times, but that’s understandable after the efforts of facing Athletic Club.”

You’d previously said that the team lacks a bit of desire to win – what are your thoughts now?

“I don’t think that those were my words. I was very happy with our performance against Athletic – we played well but conceded from a set piece, these things can happen. However, we’ve never been lacking in our desire to win – I see this every day and the players showed this again today.

“When we were struggling our eagerness to get a victory was a great help in us winning in the second half.   We attacked a lot. Over these ten days I’ve got nothing to say to the lads – they’re hard working and keen to improve. I’m very confident for what’s to come.”

What do you need to improve on?

“There’s a lot we need to better. I think that we played great against Udinese and Athletic Club. As for today, we did many positive things in the second half. Of course when it came to counter-attacks, preventative marking and game control we weren’t as fantastic as we were against Udinese and Athletic Club, but that’s also because of Venezia and the great football they play.”
