Get to know new Roma Women signing Valentina Giacinti!

The statistics speak for themselves: Valentina Giacinti is one of the great current Italian forwards.

The Italy international joined the Giallorossi on Thursday, signing a three-year deal with the club.

Here's what you need to know about her...

    Career so far

Born and raised in Bergamo, Giacinti began her football career with Atalanta - making her Serie A debut for the club when she was just 16 years old.

After a year at Napoli she decided to make the move to the United States, playing in Seattle as she won the national cup and the Washington state title with her team.

She returned to Italy and joined Mozzanica, playing four seasons at the club - including the 2015-16 campaign, where she would finish Serie A top goalscorer for the first time after notching 32 goals in 22 games. A year on from that she would join Brescia, where she would play her first matches in the Women's Champions League.

At Brescia she would win the Italian Supercup, going on to finish Serie A top goalscorer once again, this time with 21 goals.

When Brescia became AC Milan ahead of the 2018-19 season that did not stop Giacinti continuing her prolific form, as she finished top goalscorer yet again that season.

Earlier this year she left the Rossoneri, joining Fiorentina on loan for the second half of the campaign.

    For the National Team

Giacinti was called up to the Italy squad for the first time in 2015 - making her debut in September that year.

She has since gone on to represent her club at both the Cyprus Cup and World Cup in 2019, scoring in the last-16 of the latter competition against China.

She was also a part of the Azzurre squad for this summer's European Championship in England, although Milena Bertolini's side did not escape the group stage.

    Individual honours

    3x Serie A top goalscorer

    2015-16 – 32 goals

    2017-18 – 21 goals

    2018-19 – 21 goals

    Style of play

Giacinti is a classic centre forward who is equally comfortable attacking the spaces in behind defenders as she is dropping slightly deeper to link-up play.

Deadly in front of goal but capable of providing assists too, Giacinti has proven herself to be dangerous on the counter-attack. She is right-footed.

    The Statistics

The statistics tell a story: 182 goals in 233 Serie A games is an impressive figure for any player.

She is also the first player to score 50 goals for AC Milan in the club's history, and has 18 goals in 49 games to her credit at international level.
