The Italy international converted in the first minute of injury time at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona to secure a deserved point for the Giallorossi.
“If we play with this spirit and desire we can go a long way," El Shaarawy said.
"That second half performance is the way forward for us.
"We battled hard and definitely deserved even more from the game tonight.”
He added: “We have shown we will not give up until the final whistle – we are getting rewarded for that and that is always a positive thing.”
The winger was asked if the side are still pursuing a top-four finish in the league - which would bring with it Champions League football next season.
“We are definitely thinking about it,” El Shaarawy said.
“Until it is mathematically impossible we have the right and the duty to chase it until the last possible moment. So that is what we will do.”
