Zaniolo elated to find winning touch

Nicolo Zaniolo was the hero as Roma beat Bodo/Glimt in the Europa Conference League on Thursday night, reaching the semi-finals thanks to his first hat-trick for the club.

Zaniolo was in irresistible form all evening, putting the Norwegian champions to the sword as the Giallorossi won 4-0 on the night and 5-2 on aggregate.

“We were perfect in both defence and attack tonight,” Zaniolo said afterwards.

“We will enjoy this win tonight and then we will focus on the semi-finals.”

He added: “I am delighted because we won the game, because I helped the team to win it, and because we did it in front of these fans who helped us through to reach the semi-finals. But we won’t stop here.”

After a couple of seasons affected by injury, the Italy international was asked how he had managed to maintain his focus throughout the ups and downs.

“In the good periods and the tough ones I have always kept a level head about things," he added.

"A level head that I will need to have now, even after this perfect evening. Tough moments happen in life and you just need to keep the right perspective.

“In my toughest moments the fans have supported me – even during the two bad injuries I had – they have never let me feel alone. I’ve had more support from them in the tough moments than in the good ones.

"So I can only thank them for that, I love them.”
