Mattias Svanberg scored the only goal of the game midway through the first half, on a frustrating night for Jose Mourinho's side.

Tammy Abraham failed to convert with a number of good chances, as both he and Rick Karsdorp picked up yellow cards that will now see them miss Saturday's Serie A meeting with Inter Milan.

Stephan El Shaarawy also limped off injured, in a game where Lukasz Skorupski in the Bologna goal proved more than equal to anything thrown at him.
