The visitors took the lead midway through the first half through Di Stefano, only for Alberto De Rossi's to salvage something late in the day.

The result means the side drop off top spot in the table - with Sampdoria now holding a two-point lead.

"It was a very open game - although I would have liked to see a bit more balance from my side," De Rossi said afterwards.

"We were never under any illusions; it was great to see ourselves up at the top of the standings, but now other teams are starting to find themselves. We are trying to find that form again to get back to winning ways but it isn't easy to bring the same energy and focus to each game."
