Mancini: We need to apologise to the fans

Gianluca Mancini apologised to Roma supporters in the wake of Sunday’s 2-0 defeat against Sampdoria.

The Giallorossi’s recent struggles continued at the Stadio Luigi Ferraris – and Mancini acknowledged that the side did not deserve to get anything from the game.

“We are going through a really tough spell,” Mancini said.

“We came here after the defeat in Manchester, which really took the wind out of our sails. Tonight we didn’t bounce back, we deserved to lose.

“We need to apologise to the fans, stay quiet and do everything we can to turn this form around and finish the season as well as possible."

The Italy international was asked what could explain the side’s recent struggles.

“It’s not an excuse, but in a tough league campaign like Serie A when you start to lose a lot of important players it is clear that you are going to run into some difficulties,” he said.

“The position in the table is what we warrant. As I’ve said, it’s better for us to keep quiet.”
